The UN Statement on the Possible Death of al-Baghdadi

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said that he knew about the possible death of al-Baghdadi.
At the same time, Dujarric said that the organization does not have some reliable and independent information on this issue and at the moment has no opportunity to confirm his death.
The UN official stressed that the organization is not involved directly in the military operations of individual states, but information provided about the death is now being verified. The more so, at the moment, this information is checked by all the parties of the conflict in Syria using the independent intelligence sources familiar to the situation.
To be recalled is that earlier there were reports in some media about the possible al-Baghdadi’s elimination as a result of the Russian air strike in the southern suburb of Raqqa on May 28, 2017. The blow was struck at the terrorist’s command center, where the meeting of IS-leaders took place. The militants were discussing the routes of their forces withdrawal from Raqqa through the so-called southern corridor.
Military correspondents of Inside Syria Media Center stress that the terrorists flee from Raqqa and Mosul to the city of Al Mayadeen located in Syria not far from the border with Iraq. The city was proclaimed the new capital of ISIS. Approximately 330 field commanders were liquidated on the road to Al Mayadeen.
